Citycard started in a limited way in Edinburgh in 1999, now the Founder wants the whole nation to benefit from his concept.

The original Citycard concept was first introduced to the City of Edinburgh Council's Corporate Services in 1999. It targeted the city’s key workers in hospitals, schools and the Council, giving them access to discounts from local businesses. The idea was to help them make their wages go further and allow these essential workers enjoy themselves by relieving them of financial constraints when going out.

The concept was found to be a very popular and gradually Citycard was made available to the general public rather than a limited section of the community.

Since the Council withdrew Citycard in 2007, The Founder has reinvigorated the product and now wants the whole country to benefit from it This will help to improve community relationships as well as increase competition between the suppliers of goods and services.

In order to help sustain the community spirit, Citycard.co.uk will be giving 25% of net proceeds to charities.

We aim to be eco-friendly as well as cost effective by cutting down on junk mail and looking for alternative methods to promote our product. We are proud to have introduced the Citycard mobile phone wallpaper for proof of membership as a genuine way of cutting the eco-footprint of our printing and distribution costs.
